Who are Ocean Embassy and how are they unique?
This is on the FAQ section of their website…..
“How is Ocean Embassy unique? Ocean Embassy was conceived and founded from the ground up by Christ-centered and animal-oriented people. We just might be the only organization in our field whose board of directors began their careers caring for many species of animals in quality zoological facilities. Ocean Embassy is our collective dream: to reach beyond the known horizon of zoological management, research and education; to positively and actively contribute to our world using the God given talents and expertise with which we were blessed.”
“To whom much is given, much is expected.” Luke 12:48″

They accuse cetacean advocates of being “focused primarily on generating public controversy through sensationalism as a fundraising tool” and describe Ocean Embassy as an “animal advocacy organisation” which is interesting given that they are one of the main purveyors of captive cetacean facilities today.
“In short, Ocean Embassy (OE) is a company that builds marine parks around the world, and captures dolphins to fill them. In 2006, OE began a controversial project; they would build a dolphinarium in Panama and initially capture up to 28 dolphins to fill the pools. The capture would be conducted without any research into the dolphin population, and would begin a five-year capture operation with an ultimate quota of 80 dolphins” (from Cetacean Inspiration blog.)

It is interesting that Mark Simmons, one of the founders of Ocean Embassy has now gone on to write a book that I can only predict is an attack on anti captivity advocates given it’s excited anticipation by the Seaworld podcast team.
In fact I was told by them that after I read this book, I will “realise how criminal activist groups really are”.
Of course, the plundering of the oceans and the removal of cetaceans from endangered populations (the Solomon Isles dolphins at Resorts World Sentosa are a case in point) must be justifiable to them after all, they are god-fearing and truly care about animals. It’s not in any way about the bottom line of course, it’s education and conservation.

Look at their website, make your own mind up. Don’t attack them however. Absorb the information. Get both sides of the story. We will be keeping a close eye on the progress of this project by Mr Simmons.
We don’t fund raise and we don’t sensationalise. We tell it like we see it. I have asked Mr Simmons to donate a copy of his book to me. After all, it’s healthy to consider both sides of a story, isn’t it? I haven’t yet got an answer though I did receive an insulting tweet from his spouse on another topic accusing me of being a ‘radical’.
I couldn’t bring myself to pay one cent towards profit for Mr Simmons and that’s why I have asked for a copy to be donated. It appears that he’s done quite handsomely from the cetaceans lingering in the facilities he’s been connected with. However, when I do read this book, it will be with an open mind. I will also re-read the other texts on the same topic.
Jane Goodall once said, “Change happens by listening and then starting a dialogue with the people who are doing something you don’t believe is right”.
So please Mr Simmons, let me listen.
